Press Conference: Will Nature Markets and monetizing charismatic species bridge the biodiversity financing gap?, UN Convention on Biodiversity - COP 17.
The Global Mechanism for Biodiversity Finance (GMBF) sets the goal of achieving sufficient financial resources to close the US$700 billion annual biodiversity 'financing gap' as one of its targets for 2050. Nature Bonds and monetizing migratory megafauna and charismatic species for nature markets are being hailed as key to bridging this financing gap. The hope is that putting a price on nature will save nature.
