Launch of Global Report "State of Biodiversity Action" - Conference of the Parties (COP 17).

This press conference will launch the State of Biodiversity Action report, the first global report on collective progress in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).

Speakers (TBC):United Nations Secretary-General - António Guterres
President of COP17, Minister of Environment of Armenia - Hambardzum Matevosyan
Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme - Inger Andersen
Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) - Astrid Schomaker

Moderated by Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General.

Context:

Ahead of the opening of the COP 17 Leaders' Summit, the launch provides a key moment to bring its findings into the global spotlight, presenting a robust evidence base on global progress and highlighting where action is advancing and where greater efforts are needed to achieve the goals and targets of the KMGBF.

As the world approaches the halfway point toward the KMGBF's 2030 targets, agreed in 2022 at COP 15, the report will help shape the first major global stock take on implementation of the Framework, providing the evidence base for the KMGBF's global review at COP 17 by the 196 Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The discussion of the global review including the key messages of this report are expected to result in a decision at COP 17 that includes a set of actions for accelerating implementation of the Framework's 23 targets by the 2030 deadline.
