Retiroparken, Molde – A Living Legacy Under Threat On 22 May , the community will gather to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity —a day recognized globally to highlight the importance of ecosystems. This year, the day will hold special significance in Molde. It will serve as a platform to honor the 150-year legacy of Retiroparken, to elevate the voice of citizens. Retiroparken stands as one of Norway’s most treasured urban green spaces. The park was established in 1875, during a time when Norway’s coastal towns were flourishing thanks to the rise of the fishing and shipping industries. Today, Retiroparken is a vibrant example of urban rewilding. Its forest floor is alive with mosses, fungi, and understory plants. Birds nest in its mature trees. Pollinators hum through wildflowers. To mark the International Day for Biodiversity 2025, which is celebrated annually on 22 May , and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), Roman Murzhak, head of the Ecology in ICT clubs at the Kherson Centre for Children and Youth Creativity, will hold online panorama events on the topic ‘Let's Save Biodiversity Together’. More than 110 students are expected to take part in the events. At the event, pupils and students will learn about the importance of biodiversity and how everyone can contribute to biodiversity conservation , and play a game: Interesting facts about birds. We will focus on global goals 4: to stop species extinction, protect genetic diversity and resolve conflicts between humans and wildlife, and 7: to reduce pollution to levels that do not harm biodiversity.
