Retiroparken, Molde – A Living Legacy Under Threat On 22 May , the community will gather to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity —a day recognized globally to highlight the importance of ecosystems. This year, the day will hold special significance in Molde. It will serve as a platform to honor the 150-year legacy of Retiroparken, to elevate the voice of citizens. Retiroparken stands as one of Norway’s most treasured urban green spaces. The park was established in 1875, during a time when Norway’s coastal towns were flourishing thanks to the rise of the fishing and shipping industries. Today, Retiroparken is a vibrant example of urban rewilding. Its forest floor is alive with mosses, fungi, and understory plants. Birds nest in its mature trees. Pollinators hum through wildflowers.
